Focus and Savor

I am not sure about you, but I no longer make New Year’s resolutions.

It’s just too discouraging.

What does help me is to focus on an intention. But last year, I didn’t right my intention down

I think it had something to do with mindfulness, but I’m not entirely sure. This year I am writing it down.

First, I landed on savor. Savor the moment, savor family and friends, savor food, savor travel.

It’s a delicious word, don’t you think?

Life is short and getting shorter.

Then the word focus kept coming up for me.

Are you like me? I find my attention span a lot shorter than it used to be. Do you find your attention is pulled in multiple directions? I heard a news story recently that in the age of smart phones and social media, our attention spans are decreasing.

I have printed my words for 2023 out and posted them behind my computer monitors.

I want to have more focus and savor each moment. Even the irritating, boring, or frustrating moments. (I write this as I sit in jury duty).

In 2023, what will you focus and savor?

For me, it’s:

  • Time with family and friends

  • Travel

  • Work with coalition and community leaders focused on collaboration and social change – this year I plan to do more facilitation, training and speakin

  • Conversations on Community Possibilities that move people

  • Work with community leaders that moves them forward

  • Celebrating success includes my book, A Guide to Community Consulting, with Susan Wolfe, which will be published this July in the states (out in May in the UK).

What is on your plan-to-savor list? That sounds nicer than a to-do list doesn’t it?
