Hey Nonprofit Leader, Feeling Lost?

Hi everyone. What did you do this summer? 😊. We did a loop out west to visit Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon National Parks. Then we spent one night in Las Vegas (where the youngest won $500 at the Blackjack table) before flying home.

We got lost on our first day in Zion. Well almost.

At the start of the trail, my friend and I were certain we should zig, when clearly the map said zag. No worries, we figured it out in short order. May I just say whoever rates trails on All Trails is nuts? We barely made it to the lower pool of the Emerald Pool Trail. I blame it on the altitude!

Things got better. But not everything went completely as planned. The Narrows Hike was closed because of high water levels so we could not do that iconic hike up the Virgin River. Truth be told, my husband was probably secretly relieved.

Then, it turns out massive snowfall this Winter caused 300 feet of pipeline to burst at the North Rim and the park was closed during the two days we were supposed to spend there.

You know the old, trite saying, when life throws you lemons……………….

You pivot.

We saw the Vermillion Cliffs, the Navajo Bridge and drove through the Navajo Reservation to see Horseshoe Bend and had the BEST mole’ at a fabulous family-owned Mexican restaurant in Page, Arizona.

Life is like that. Things don’t always go as planned and we have to pivot.

Maybe,

  • You lost some funding.

  • The coordinator, partner, or client you thought was going to be amazing, left the project for some reason.

  • You can’t seem to motivate your coalition members to take action.

  • No one can agree on the implementation plan they, in fact, designed!

  • You can’t get that data you thought would be so easy to collect.

  • Someone close to you is sick or worse.

Life happens. And isn’t that terrific? Life happens.

Don’t fight it, friend.

Often there is something wonderful waiting for you.

Check your map, load up on that water and trail mix, and get going.

People are counting on you.

How can I help? Let me know.
